La Paz
The small resort of La Paz is named for the Virgin to whom its early twentieth-century French-style Neo-Gothic church is dedicated – but its name could also refer to the peaceful atmosphere that it enjoys for most of the year – broken only by the odd festival devoted to fishing and folk singing. The main reason to visit is to soak in the modern thermal baths right down by the Río Paraná, a short way south of the town itself. The best accommodation by far is Costa Dorada Resort (

The rooms at the resort are modern, bright and tastefully decorated, with large windows and small terraces for river views, particularly attractive at sunset. The complex includes the elegant restaurant, Terramillán, serving national and international specialities, including fish from the Paraná.
