With a population of 107,000, TRELEW is second only to Comodoro Rivadavia as an industrial and commercial centre in Chubut, though it's a more attractive place, with fewer high-rises and marked less by heavy industry. Home to a couple of excellent museums, the town's good transport connections make it a convenient base from which to explore the surrounding Welsh settlements of the Lower Chubut Valley and, to the south, the famous penguin colony at Punta Tombo.
