New Zealand Guide
Entry requirements
All visitors to New Zealand need a passport, which must be valid for at least three months beyond the time you intend to stay. When flying to New Zealand you'll probably need to show you have an onward or return ticket before they'll let you board the plane.
On arrival, British citizens are automatically issued with a permit to stay for up to six months, and a three-month permit is granted to citizens of most other European countries, Southeast Asian nations, Japan, South Africa, the USA and Canada, and several other countries. Australian citizens and permanent residents can stay indefinitely.
Other nationalities need to obtain a visitor visa in advance from a New Zealand embassy, costing the local equivalent of NZ$130 and usually valid for three months. Visas are issued by the New Zealand Immigration Service (
www.immigration.govt.nz ).
