The city limits
While the centre of Budapest is hardly short of attractions, it would be a shame to overlook some others out towards or just beyond the city limits. In Pest, the Railway History Park – where visitors can drive steam trains – is popular with Hungarian tourists, while the New Public Cemetery completes the roll-call of illustrious Hungarian dead begun at Kerepesi. In Buda, the Memento Park, with its exiled Communist memorials, is the prime destination for foreigners, and children will also enjoy the Tropicarium, with its rainforest creatures and sharks – leaving the Nagytétényi Castle Museum to devotees of stately homes. You can reach any of these places from the city centre within an hour.
