The Bartók Memorial House (Bartók Béla Emlékház), in a leafy suburb below Láto-hegy, was the residence of Béla Bartók, his wife and two sons from 1932 until their emigration to America in 1940, by which time Bartók despaired of Hungary's right-wing regime. It can be reached by taking bus #29 from the Szemlőhegyi Cave to the Nagybányai út stop, which leads to Csalán utca, or bus #5 from Március 15 tér in Pest or Moszkva tér to the Pasaréti tér terminus, and then a ten-minute walk uphill (take the first left along Csévi utca).
The museum has an extensive range of Bartók memorabilia, including some of his original furniture and possessions; displays may include such items as the folk handicrafts he collected during his ethno-musical research trips to Transylvania with Zoltán Kodály, and the shirt cuff on which Bartók wiped his pen-nibs when composing scores. Chamber music concerts (1500Ft) are held here from March until June (1/394-2100 for information).
