www.action.gay.hu . The most hardcore of the gay bars, full of young men looking for one-night stands. The entrance is hard to find – it's 15m along from the big "A" sign on the door. Dark room, video room and live shows on Fri (700Ft entry). Minimum consumption 1600Ft. Opening time: Daily 9pm–5am
2 Amstel River Café V, Párizsi utca 6. Not on the river but in the middle of the Belváros, this friendly Dutch-style pub-restaurant attracts a large foreign clientele and is popular with gays. Opening time: Daily noon– midnight
3 Capella V, Belgrád rakpart 23 www.capellacafe.hu .Drag queens and lots of kitsch, with decor as outrageous as the acts. It's become a well-known haunt, and prices are highish. Popular with straights, though more gays come on Wed. Drag shows start at midnight and 1am. Entry 500Ft Wed & Thurs, 1500Ft Fri & Sat, up to 3500Ft on special occasions. Opening time: Daily 10pm–5am
4 Club 93 V, Vas utca 2. A cheap pizzeria just off Rákóczi út, popular with gays and lesbians. The gallery and window seating make it a good place to people-watch. Opening time: Daily 11.30am– midnight
5 CoXx (formerly Chaos) V, Dohány utca 38 www.coxx.hu . The most cultured of the gay bars, this men-only venue is a friendly place to meet. The ground floor is a gallery and internet café; downstairs holds a dancefloor, video rooms and numerous other spaces. Minimum consumption 1000Ft. Opening time: Daily 9pm–4am
