Óbuda and Margit-sziget
Drinking
1 Cha-Cha-Cha Terasz XIII, Athletics Club, Margit-sziget. The best of the Margit-sziget outdoor bars, at the southern end of the island: turning off Margit híd it is the second bar along on the left. This buzzy place is the summer venue of an established bar on Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, and plays 1970s and 1980s music (Hungarian and Western) for dancing and Sgt Pepper style videos (or sports TV) on the big screen. Though it opens mid-May, it doesn't really come alive till mid-June. Opening time: Late May– Sept, daily, 6pm–2am
2
Római-part III, Rómaifürdő. This is not one bar, but a whole string of open-air bars and cheap eateries lining the riverbank north of Óbuda; the food is mainly of the deep-fried meat and fish with chips variety. Take the HÉV train from Batthyány tér to Rómaifürdő and it is a 10min walk down to the river. Opening time: Noon until 10pm
3 Sark kert XIII, Margit-sziget. Another summer island bar: walking up from Margit híd it's on the right after Cha-Cha-Cha. Can feel like an unfinished campsite at a Red Sea resort: fairly basic in its seating and facilities, but it's a lively place once the crowds arrive. Has occasional live music. Opening time: Late May– Sept, daily, 6pm–2am
