The Stock Exchange

To the west end of Szabadság tér stands the Stock Exchange (Tőzsde), one of the grandest buildings in Budapest. Designed by Ignác Alpár, it has blended motifs from Greek and Assyrian architecture and is crowned with twin towers resembling Khmer temples. After the Communists closed down the Exchange in 1948, it became the headquarters of Hungarian Television.
