Gellért-hegy and the Tabán
Gellért-hegy, a craggy dolomite hill rearing 130m above the embankment, is one area you'd be foolish to miss: it offers a fabulous view of the city and is as much a feature of Budapest's waterfront panorama as Várhegy and the Parliament building. At its foot, the Gellért hotel is famous for its Art Nouveau thermal baths and summer terrace. North of Gellért-hegy, the Tabán, once Buda's artisan quarter, now has more roads than buildings and makes an incongruous setting for one of Budapest's most historic and magical Turkish baths, the Rudas.
Transport to the district is plentiful: bus #7 and trams # 47 and #49 go from Pest to Gellért tér and Móricz Zsigmond körtér, while tram #18 from Moszkva tér and tram #19 from Batthyány tér via the Tabán serve the same points.
