China Guide
Getting around
Public transport is comprehensive and good value in China: you can fly to all regional capitals and many cities; the rail network extends to every region; and you can reach China's remotest corners on local buses. Tibet is the one area where there are widespread restrictions on independent travel. However, getting around a crowded country with over a billion people often requires planning, patience and stamina. This is especially true for long-distance journeys, where you'll find travelling in as much comfort as you can afford saves a lot of undue stress. Tours are one way of taking the pressure off, and may be the only practical way of getting out to certain sights.
