Around Ubud
The countryside surrounding Ubud, and its traditional hamlets give ample opportunity for exploration on foot or by bike, and shopping tends to become a major pastime too, with Balinese carvers and painters selling their wares at every corner and plenty of outlets run by expat fashion designers and artists. The route to Ubud north of Denpasar takes you through a string of craft-producing little towns dubbed the "tourist corridor", where you can watch artisans at work and browse their wares.
