Oud Metha
On the opposite side of the Creek from Garhoud, the district of Oud Metha is home to assorted malls, hotels, parks and low-brow leisure attractions. The area's two major landmarks are the vast Grand Hyatt Hotel, which stands in majestic isolation at Oud Metha's southern end, its curved, interlocking white wings looking like some kind of giant child's toy, and the wacky Egyptian-themed Wafi City shopping and restaurant complex, a little slice of Vegas in Dubai, complete with full-size obelisks, pharaohs and gilt columns (even the cubicle doors in the loos are decorated in hieroglyphics).
