013 737 7000 or 013 737 8191 www.shangana.co.za Delicious African dinners (R233) cooked in massive pots over an open fire by the chief's wives; the menu can include crocodile in spicy peanut sauce, beef and honey-glazed sweet potato, with tropical fruit on skewers for dessert. Vegetarians are well catered for, with plenty of vegetables and a bean dish. You eat in huts and are served very graciously by women from the household. Meals are the climax of a tour of the village and an energetic show of dancing, included in the price.

Lunches, served on a wooden deck under cream umbrellas, include mushroom and tarragon pie and home-made pizza, while dinners feature the likes of crispy salmon or peppered fillet.
