The imposing neo-Baroque City Hall houses the interesting Durban Art Gallery on its second floor, which has a few Victorian paintings, but is most notable for its pioneering vision back in the 1970s in becoming the first gallery in the country to collect black South African art. One room in the gallery features an exhibition on the people after whom several of Durban's main streets have been renamed, explaining their careers and cultural importance through words and photographs.
