Durban's Botanic Gardens were established in 1849. They're famous for their cycad collection, which includes Encephalartos woodii, one of the rarest specimens in the world. The gardens also boast cool paths, excellent picnic spots, a lovely tea house and a magnificent array of orchids. A notice board just inside the main entrance on St Thomas Road advertises forthcoming events, including regular KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra concerts.
