Arrival
By the start of the 2010 World Cup, Durban should have a brand-new airport at La Mercy, 30km north of Durban. For now, however, Durban International airport (
031 451 6666) is 14km south of the centre on the Southern Freeway. The domestic and international terminals are in the same building, with arrivals on the south side and departures on the north side. Bus services leave every half hour (daily 7am–10.30pm;
031 465 1660; R30) for the twenty-minute journey from outside the arrivals terminal to Shell House on the corner of Aliwal and Smith streets in the city centre. A metered taxi to the city costs around R150. Julnic Tours runs a shuttle service between the airport and city accommodation (R160 one-way;
031 205 9119).
