2 Blue Crane 156 Melk St, New Muckleneuk 012 460 7615 www.bluecranerestaurant.co.za A fairly traditional and smart restaurant in a unique location, overlooking the dam and the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary. Open daily for breakfast, afternoon tea and hearty, moderately priced main meals.
3 BOER'geoisie Greenlyn Village, Thirteenth St, Menlo Park 012 460 0264. The name says it all – hearty, traditional boerekos jazzed up with bistro-cuisine flourishes. The potjies (stews) are the house speciality; options include lamb with dumplings and tripe and trotters with onions. Vegans beware. Opening time: Closed Sun evenings
