Lesotho Guide
Weather
Lesotho's winter runs from May to July, when it often snows in the highlands and sometimes in the lowlands too. Although the days are usually clear and warm, it gets extremely cold at night and ice can make driving hazardous in the highlands, while snowfall blocks even tarred highways for days at a time. Spring (Aug– Oct), when the snow melts, is a beautiful time, with new plants sprouting up everywhere. November to January is summer, when Lesotho gets most of its rain, often torrential, turning dirt roads into mudslides. Still, when it isn't raining the weather is usually sunny and the landscape is coloured in vivid shades of green. Autumn (Feb– April) is one of the best times to visit, as it doesn't usually rain too much and temperatures are moderate. Whatever the time of year, Lesotho can be very cold at night, particularly in the highlands, and prone to rapid weather changes, for which it's always wise to be prepared.
