Khuri women drawing water from a well outside Jaisalmer
A charming, sleepy place, the Rajasthani village of Khuri makes an ideal base for exploring the mighty Thar Desert on a camel safari. Many of Khuri’s homes are still made of mud and thatch, their exterior surfaces beautifully decorated with ornate white murals, and local women in flamboyantly coloured dress fill up jugs with water at caste-specific wells. The night sky hereabouts is one of the starriest in the world.
